Samsung Galaxy S Review

Thanks to Nuffnang, I was given a chance to review the new Samsung Galaxy S. I was pretty excited when I got the phone. I wanted to check out the hyped Super Clear LCD… and true enough its worth checking out.

Side by side, my HTC HD2 and the Samsung Galaxy S looked almost the same. Samsung was a bit wider and thicker than HTC HD2 but the difference is not much and you don’t notice it. HD2′s screen was a bit larger than the Galaxy S. Anyway, this review is not to differentiate both gadgets side by side.

So, on first look, Samsung Galaxy S looks a bit big in my hand, of course a woman’s hand is smaller. I’m pretty sure the Galaxy S will be a nice accessory to any man’s hand. :P With 4″ screen size and Super Clear LCD screen the Samsung Galaxy S delivers great image on the screen. It was really clear and the touch screen was very responsive. I felt like I was touching the iphone screen, the response of the touch screen was that good. At one point, I didn’t even touch the screen, i just brought my fingers closer to the screen and it responded. Hence, you don’t need to tap the screen so hard to get the screen to response. But the downside is it could be initiated accidentally as our body also producing heat. I’m sure this problem could be fixed if you lock the screen.

I’m amazed at the amount of programmes that they had in the Samsung Galaxy S. It is fully equippedwith Microsoft Office Mobile, Mini Diary, GPS, Word to go and many more… I loved the Mini Diary, it is similar to the Geotagging feature in my HD2 but you’d get to write notes after taking picture. It’s really like a mini diary. So, you won’t lose your diary and you get to write it anywhere and anytime you want.

The Samsung Galaxy S comes with an ultrafast 1Ghz Hummingboard Processor running on the latest 2.2 Android Froyo OS and has 5Mp Camera but unfortunately, it does not have a flash. However, you might be jumping to joy if you find out that the video camera is Full HD and you can take awesome video.

Okay, now for the negative part. Although I had the  phone for 5 days but didn’t get to explore it more coz the phone will get hot and the battery died within 4 hours. I kept the phone in my bag and the screen locked, yet it got hot and the battery died. So, after 2 days, I stopped putting it in my bag. I held it and didn’t put it in bag often. The battery didn’t die and the phone did not get hot. So, it lasted about 1 1/2 day with minimal activities. I tested the video, camera, send sms, watched youtube and a couple of calls.

Watching Youtube in this was really good. It was crystal clear and the sound was loud and clear. In fact, I had to decrease the volume coz it was quite loud.

Retail price is RM2599 but Digi is offering it for RM 1499 with Smart Plan.

I will be uploading more pictures (using lenovo s10 to edit pics is tedious)
